Skip counting

I am learning to skip count in 5s.  Next I will be try skip counting on from a number.

" We were counting in fives.  I can also count in two. I think fives are the easiest."

Reading Eggs

I am learning to recognise digraphs and blends so I can read the sounds that two letters make.  Reading Eggs helps me to reinforce my learning.

" I can do the quiz right because I got a gold certificate." said Abdul

Acrostic poem

I am learning how to write an acrostic poem.  I know that I start each sentence with a letter of the subject.  I wrote about myself. 

" I like my writing book because it's neat and tidy. I can do different starts at the start of my story now." Abdul

Bird pillow

For our Art Exhibition this year we learnt how to sketch a bird.  The final drawing was transferred onto calico and dye was added.  The bird was glued onto a pillow that Mrs Scott and Mrs Worsfold had sewn.  Don't they look great!

I am learning to write number sentences to 10.

I am learning to write number sentences to 10 and use this knowledge, when I play games, to solve problems in my head.

"  I have to put the biggest number in my head and try to count on." said Abdul.

I am learning to sound out 3 letter words.

I am learning to say the first, middle and last sound in a word and then blend the sounds together to write the word.  This can help me in my reading and my writing.

" I can sound out letters because if I get mixed up I sound the words out. I can miss out the word so I can read back and work out the word." said Abdul

Fathers Day celebration


"I can do finger spaces and I can use wow words so my story gets more interesting." said Abdul

I am learning to place a sentence in order.

I am learning to construct a sentence, reading it as I go to make sure my reading makes sense.

"I can read because I know the words.  I robot them." said Abdul

We are learning to write for an audience and publish quality work to share.

Abdul said, " I like reading with my buddy and they help me with the books."

I am learning to read on from a number

Abdul, you are able to read on from any number up to 20. Next we will be working on ordering numbers to 20 and above.

"I can count on from 5 or 10. I can count to 100 by myself." said Abdul

Elm Park 50th Party

We launched our Celebration Inquiry with a huge party for Elm Park School. This year our school will turn 50! We had a great day with our school friends and our whanau.

Abdul said, "I blew really big bubbles and we had a treasure hunt and I got a top."

I am learning to form my numerals correctly.

I am learning to write my numbers around the right way.  I am able to write up to 20 , but I need to remember 13. 

Abdul said," I am learning how to make numbers. I am going to try to 100!"

I am learning to make a rhyming string.

I am learning to find words that end with the same rhyming sounds.
I am learning to make a pattern of my own.

Abdul said, " I can get the sounds. I learned all the letters and words."

I am learning about responsibilty

I am learning to care for our environment and make it look nice.

I am learning to be responsible and remember to water the plants so they grow.

Abdul said, "I am getting the ugly plants out. I like the new plants."
